As this time of the year circles around again, we would like to take this time to reflect upon the connections that matter the most and help to inspire - innovation, exploration, and discovery.
The Apollo 8 mission launched on December 21 of 1968 and NASA astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders became the first humans to depart from our home planet and orbit another world. The crew orbited the Moon ten times over the course of twenty hours, during which they made a Christmas Eve television broadcast where they read the first ten verses from the Book of Genesis.
Orbital Transports' founder, David’s 1968 astronaut ornament with Apollo mission details.
To commemorate this momentous event, my Mother gave me this special astronaut ornament to hang on our family Christmas tree. She recorded the date and the names of the three astronauts on the ornament's belt. The ornament originally had a glass helmet that unfortunately broke years ago. But the ornament has hung on our Christmas tree ever since and continues to inspire me to reach for the stars.
As we celebrate the season, we’re grateful to be part of a community that turns exploration into reality and keeps the spirit of discovery alive.
Happy Holidays!
