Orbital Transports is proud to announce that we were selected to receive a NASA SBIR Phase I grant for our proposal to develop advanced ultrasonic acoustic sensor networks to detect micrometeor and orbital debris (MMOD) impacts on large space structures like the International Space Station. The study will explore methods of training machine learning systems to detect MMOD impacts from the acoustic emissions, determine the location of the impact site, and classify the extent of the consequent damage.
"We've been developing these concepts as part of our space infrastructure, servicing and maintenance program for a couple of years," said Orbital Transports CEO David Hurst. "It's great that NASA selected our work in this area for further development."
